Career advancement doesn’t just mean getting a pay rise (although this is definitely a part of it too!) – it means getting further along in your career, securing promotions and taking on more responsibilities. It refers to the way in which you progress in your career and the way you develop naturally and begin to achieve new things.
If you work in a good company that nurtures your development, then career advancement often happens organically. Your managers will give you more opportunities and the chance to prove yourself to them. If you don’t work in this kind of environment, then you might just need to push a little bit harder in order to get your career moving in the right direction. Speak openly to your boss about what you want to achieve and see if this is at all aligned with the company vision. If not, it may be time to find a new role.
